When an athlete wants to perform at their highest level, they train harder than even they thought possible.  When a leader wants to improve his skills and inspire those he leads, what steps can he take?  One of the many tips is to read as much as possible on the subject of leadership.  There are several benefits to reading and several different formats you can use.

Leadership blogs are a great way to gain experience from other people.  There is a wealth of information ready to help you in achieving your goals.

Below are some of my favorite leadership blogs that I try to visit as often as possible.  I did not go for quantity but quality.  Some blogs I had to eliminate from my original list due to lack of consistency in posting.

The goal is to give you a head start to great reading.

Here are the 12 Best Leadership Blogs you should be following in 2021:

1. Michael Hyatt

I don’t know if Michael will ever read this post, but if he does I want him to know that he was one of my inspirations for starting this blog.  I was first introduced to Michael through his podcast and now I am a regular reader of his blog.  His book, “Platform, Get Noticed in a Noisy World”, helped guide me through my beginning journey.  He blogs on personal development, leadership, productivity, platform, and publishing.

2.  Leadership Freak

Short on time?  Need a quick leadership inspiration to start your day?  Read Leadership Freak. Dan Rockwell writes about leadership and seeks to mentor and coach others using 300 words or less.

3.  Great Leaders Serve by Mark Miller

Mark Miller’s blog is all about elevating your leadership to the next level.  A great leader is someone who is willing and eager to put the needs of the people they lead ahead of their own needs, desires, and ambition.  Mark mentions that when talking about how “Great Leaders Sever”, it is a reference to both an attitude – a desire to serve – and specific practices the best servant leaders exhibit on a regular basis.

He also has several leadership books that can be found on Amazon and on his blog to help you along your leadership journey.

4.  Thought Leaders LLC

thoughtLEADERS’ mission is to advance the art of business leadership through hands-on training and coaching led by dynamic business people. They do so by providing high-quality instruction, training, and coaching to managers, executives, and employees with a focus on filling critical job-related skill gaps.  You can find posts on virtually every aspect of leadership, including how to improve your storytelling skills.

5.  Tanveer Naseer

The main focus is on helping managers to help to develop leadership and team-building competencies to guide organizational growth and development and create a fulfilling sense of purpose in what they do.

6.  John Maxwell

I have read several of John’s books on leadership and personal development.  He truly has amazing insights on all aspects of leadership.

If you want to understand what his blog is about, read this quote taken directly from John’s Blog

We believe leadership is a privilege. It’s also a responsibility. It demands risk and accountability. We’re here to push you out of the box. No one said leading was easy. But you don’t have to do it alone. Let us come alongside you and push you toward the best you possible.

7.  Leadership Now

Leadership now is about encouraging readers to develop the leader in them – to become an active participant in shaping their future and the future of others.

8.  Seth Godin

A creative home page awaits you when you visit his blog.  Seth Godin is the author of 18 books and writes about the post-industrial revolution, the way ideas spread, marketing, quitting, leadership and most of all, changing everything.

9.  Management Excellence by Art Petty

The Art Petty Group is a leadership development and strategy firm that supports the development of high potential (Level-Up) professionals and helps CEOs and management teams reach new levels of effectiveness.

There are several themed series and posts including a favorite of mine, The Leadership Caffeine™ .  A series intended to make you think and act.

10.  Ken Blanchard Leadership Blog

I am a huge fan of Ken Blanchard’s books and have read nearly all of them.  I have even taken his course Situational Leadership.  His leadership and management techniques are simple to follow but effective.  His blog shares the latest thinking on leadership development, change management, employee engagement and more.

11.  Robin Sharma’s Blog

I have been fortunate to listen live to one of Robin Sharma’s seminars.  Titles are not required to be a leader. Robin’s blog emphasizes this point by helping readers learn how to “Lead without a Title”.  He is also a highly respected author who has topped the bestseller lists with books such as, “The Leader who had no Title” and “The Monk who Sold his Ferrari”.

12.  Lead Grow Develop

I know…I know this is my own blog.  Still in its infancy but the desire is to help readers develop themselves first and then others.  I hope you grow to enjoy my posts and I look forward to your comments.

Is there a blog that is not on the list that you would like to share?
